Factors to Keep in Mind Before Buying A Wall Mounted Saw

Wall mounted saws are very effective when there is a need to cut concrete at high heights and flat surfaces. Hence, for creating a clean and precise cut, selection of a wall mounted saw packed with modern technical features and featuring a portable design is necessary.  A highly efficient and versatile wall saw, is certainly a worthwhile investment. However, buying a wall mounted saw involves weighing several important factors as discussed below:

Easy Portability and User-friendly Design

An important consideration when buying a wall mounted saw is its design and versatility. It should be lightweight and designed to be portable, and it should also be easy to store when not in use. Read the mounting features very closely and find out the limitations and benefits it offers when it comes to performing concrete cutting on a bench top surface. Mounting features should provide complete flexibility to mount it at various heights. New modular models are easier to install and use, because they have user friendly controls as compared to several models that are bulky and complex to operate.

Power and Efficiency

For optimum performance of the wall mounted saw during cutting, a continuous water supply plays an important role. For this, it is necessary to buy a wall saw with a water cooled electric motor. Wall saws with this feature are very low weight and deliver remarkable power to the spindle. For seamless performance and control, make sure you purchase one which comes with a high performance two-speed water-cooled gearbox

Blade Type

Another important factor to consider is the versatility of the saw. It is easier to make a wide variety of cuts in length with a wall mounted saw that comes with a T-shank jigsaw blade and replacing the blade should be quick and easy.

Type of Motor

When making cuts on materials with different hardness, a variable speed motor provides better productivity since switching to a different speed for each type of material is easy.  These

machines can be used to create a precise cut for door openings, ventilation channels, window openings, dovetail cutting, special cutting, flush cutting and various diverse applications of concrete cutting.

Blade Guard

There are different makes and models of saws available on the market that come with various blade guard settings. Replacing the blade should be relatively easy for contractors. Don’t forget to read the technical specification on the type of blade, which needs to be used with the wall saw. Blades with various diameters should easily fit with the saw to complete cutting in complex places and precise cutting of various material types.

Remote Controller & Display

Don’t forget to check the features of the remote control which gives you complete flexibility in operating the wall saw at a safe distance. Have a look at the technical features and check for the longest distance from where you can operate the saw and examine the size of the LED display. The technical specs are important  in ensuring the you will purchase a machine that will give you complete control over the sawing process as it provides detailed information about the power level, operating time, current, pressure and service period.

Ease of Maintenance

Finally, an important factor to consider is the ease of maintenance of the saw. Unless the saw is long-lasting and resilient, it will not be a good value for money.  For further convenience, it often comes with a dust port that can be attached to the shop vacuum for keeping the space clean and improving visibility. Thus, it should be extremely convenient and simple to maintain and clean a well-chosen wall mounted saw.

Cutting Concrete Inside The Building Or Construction Site?

No one can deny the importance of cutting concrete for construction purposes. Nevertheless, it is necessary to take care of safety measures and precautions.

Construction workers have to make do with limited spaces and cloistered areas when dealing with concrete cutting. This renders the job quite difficult and not to say hazardous. It is necessary to demand ample space and proper ventilation for getting on with such endeavors successfully and without untoward happenings. Here below are some safety measures and precautions to take during concrete cutting.

Consider Ventilation

Experts and experienced campaigners believe that ventilation is the most crucial factor it can be the difference between a safe work environment and a hazardous one. If you are working in a confined space, ensure that there is proper aeration available.

Choosing the Right Equipment

In order to ensure that chances of accidents are kept to the minimum use of identifiable, active minds for cutting concrete is necessary. With the high developments in technology, nowadays such instruments are available that can work successfully and uneventfully even in cloistered spaces. Whether there is restricted ventilation or completely closed environment, you can use them with aplomb and get positive results in a hassle free manner. Not only is productivity high but also you can stay away from unnecessary trouble onsite. Equipments using electrical cutting technology use vacuum or water for dust suppression and this make them ideal for closed space or indoor use.

Use of Wet Cutting Technology

Those who are looking for a cost-effective technology coupled with a secure work process do not have to look beyond wet concrete cutting technology. However, this may not be thoroughly suited for indoor use. Professionals need to consider water damage, prevention measures and most utilize vacuum systems or protective sheeting to ensure such protection.

Using the Vacuum System

Another interesting method of successfully dealing with the waste from wet concrete cutting which is in keeping with the latest technological innovations is use of vacuum systems. This system attaches directly with a concrete hydraulic chain saw. This is ideal for collecting the slurry created from wet concrete cutting. This slurry remains collected in a secure tank, which you can roll around easily on a job site. Today, it is also possible to find a vacuum system containing attached floor squeeze mounted on the tank for ease of use.

Health Considerations

Besides taking care of the job site, condition protection it is necessary to remain aware of the health issues related to concrete cutting. Continuous exposure to concrete dust during cutting can lead to a wide variety of health hazards. For example, contact of wet concrete with skin may lead to appearance of rashes, skin irritations, and burns.

Contact with eyes leads to similar results and it may even need medical intervention. Prolonged exposure to concrete dust while cutting enters the lungs and because of the presence of crystalline silica may lead to such serious conditions as silicosis. This disease has long-term repercussions taking away the ability of an individual to work and lead an active life. High degree may even lead to life-threatening conditions. For the prevention of such occurrences, it is preferable, if you wear gloves during the process along with goggles for giving your eyes adequate protection.

MegaSaw joins the construction team helping to build new Masters Stores. Just like on the Bunnings Projects, the main contractor has Megasaw core drilling holes through concrete wall panels for down pipes and plumbing penetrations. On these projects we are core drilling holes up to 250 mm diameter and again some core holes have to be done out of a Boom Lift or Scissor Lift.
We have updated staff vehicles and purchases 2 new Ford XR6 Dedicated gas Utes. MegaSaw now has 3 of these vehicles in our fleet.

Refinery Project:

MegaSaw gets inducted ready for work at SHELL Refinery. One needs to have special skills and machinery to carry out concrete cutting and drilling works around all those fuel tanks. MEGASAW has both.

A Quick Guide For Safe And Secure Concrete Cutting

Usually every construction project is engaged in some type of cutting concrete or core boring. Cutting concrete may appear to be simple and easy, but in real practice there are many aspects that need to be considered for a safe and successful concrete cutting.

Safety Measures to Consider

To start with you must understand that concrete dust is potentially harmful to the lung sinuses and eyes. It may also damage nearby finish.

Dust control should be an important aspect that should be given due consideration. The two ideal dust control systems are wet cutting in which the dust is accumulated in the cooling water and another one is pneumatic devices that sucks the dust in an air stream.

When leveraging a diamond cutting blade or any other abrasive disk cutting apparatus, the water work as lubricant and simmers down the temperature of cutting device. You should handle the spillage of water onto the area that is being cut. Specific drainage should be provided or a vacuum system to control the cooling water from spreading.

Proper grounding and insulation is also vital in using electrically driven tools. Some extra precaution should be observed when using core drilling appliances. Several machines work on the suction theory to retain the base in place while the drilling process is on.

How to Cut Concrete

Any surface deeper than 4 inches can be easily cut with hand saw, but with the increase in depth of the surface being cut, the difficulty increases. Cutting concrete thicker than 6 inches warrants a professional expertise and intervention to perform the task professionally and safely.

Lay out the surface to be cut. Draw a chalk line to delineate the exact area of cutting on the concrete. Now take a 15-amp circular saw having a diamond or abrasive blade for cutting the thickness of 2 inches. This saw will work best when working with a sidewalk machine. Set the blade of your circular saw at 2 inches.

Start sawing at the brim of the concrete and gradually saw on the line you have made with your chalk. Keeping the blade wet by dripping water on it can reduce dust and keep the blade smooth and cool.

The thickness of the cut will provide you with a straight brim allowing the concrete to complete breaking the other remaining thickness and a straight edge on the top to combine with a new and fresh concrete.

How to Cut Concrete more than 4 inches Deep

You should put to work a gasoline or electric powered cutoff saw to perform the task when you have to cut concrete that is deeper than 4 inches. The cut-off saw enables you to sink deep up to 6 inches. Most housing platforms, driveways, and basement or concrete walls are found in this range.

You should follow the same guidelines of drawing a straight mark to follow on the concrete slab to ascertain your starting point. Now cut the concrete to the right depth. Progress gradually, maintaining the line of the cut-off saw. Easy going speed enables the saw will not allow the blade to overheat and will not allow the shrapnel type pieces to be flung out into the air from a broken blade causing damage to your health and damaging the well being of nearby areas.

You can also keep an assistant to remove the dust from the chalk line to view the saw cut and keep the dust under control.

Concrete cutting is one of the most vital activities that are found in almost all kinds of construction projects. If you are in the sector of the construction industry and used to perform concrete cutting, you need to keep yourself updated with prominent tips and warnings that you should follow to successfully perform your duties and keep yourself abreast with the latest development and technologies!

Concrete Cutting Techniques, Learn from the Experts

If you are professional dealing in construction sector you would be aware that every construction project requires some type of concrete cutting or core boring. It may be appearing quite simple and straightforward, but practically there are many factors that require attention to execute a safe and successful concrete cutting project.

Concrete cutting calls for sharp and appropriate tools; best equipments in good shape; good supply of cooling water and of course an apt and experienced operator. Concrete operating cutting equipment can be used simply and safely but for this you should be well acquainted with the potential hazards and must be aware of the functions and features of the device you are operating.

You can employ different mechanisms and tools when it comes to cutting concrete. A basic knowledge of concrete-cutting processes can be of the essence for you to perform a project.

Diamond Drilling

Diamond saws work fast and precisely compare to other cutting techniques. You would also need fewer operators and it can also enable you to cut reo bar and other metals that are often required in the construction process. Diamond saws are noiseless and generate least vibration compare to any other type of drilling and cutting tools. At the same time they’re less likely to harm the surrounding parts of the floor or concrete.

Concrete Wall Sawing

This method encompasses a circular blade fixed on a track-mounted tool. This track enables the tools to climb the walls and cut ceilings also. Generally, this technique is facilitated to cut walls that are thicker than 16 inches and seldom those concretes that are 36 inches thick or more. This is entirely a different technique and warrants experience and expertise.

Wire Sawing

It is used when all cutting methods collapse or go to toss. These are mostly used for larger concrete-cutting projects. These saws constitute of multi-strand cable having small diamond segments aligned through an array of pulleys attached to a hydraulic powered wheel. When the wheels pull the cable the wire spins around and cuts the material.

Flat Drilling

Such drilling process is often used for parting flat surfaces, like floors, pavements and bridge platforms. It’s often considered to be slab sawing also. In this method the tools used are kept on a cart that you can push from the rear. Such process can help you reach broken pipes or wiring under a concrete floor, highway, patching or road and cutting plumbing canals.

Core Drilling

This process of drilling is used for making precise circular holes. You can use this for forming exit for pipes, electrical wires or ventilating, heating, or air conditioning vents to fit through. You can also use this drilling machine for collecting concrete samples. These are steel tubes having diamond-tipped bits.

All the above stated tools are highly effective but at the same time there are certain guidelines that should be followed while using these tools. Concrete dust is harmful to the lung, eyes and sinuses. It also becomes abrasive and corrosive damaging the surrounding concretes too.

You need to control the dust erupting out of this drill bits. It can either be controlled by wet cutting in which the dust is accumulated in the cooling water or using pneumatic tools that can suck the dust in an air stream.

When putting in use the diamond cutting blade or any other abrasive disk drilling device like concrete saw, water is used to cool the cutting tools. You must manage the spillage of cooling water and drainage should be offered or a vacuum mechanism like wet vacuum can be attached to monitor spreading of the cooling water.

It also requires proper grounding, insulation and right ground fault protection. You must also be aware of the possibility of machine base rotates violently without warning. You should keep your body away from the possible rotation route of the device base during a core drilling process.
Don’t forget to de-active any power channels that are in the surrounding of the cutting or drilling operation.

These are the mechanisms and techniques that can be facilitated to cut the concrete using various concrete cutting saws and tools. All these tools are meant for different applications given the situation and requirement of the occasion. As every machine manifests certain flaws if not handled properly, it is suggested to get yourself accustomed with the type of tool you are going to use beforehand to get the best output.
